American Flag Football Pilot Program
The ABF is pleased to offer, in partnership with the Leiden Lightening American Football Club, our initial American flag football program for boys and girls. The pilot program will consist of the Pee Wees ages 8-11 and the Cubs ages 12-16. The ages are as of January 1, 2010.
Flag football is a version of American football that is popular worldwide. The basic rules of the game are similar to those of the mainstream game (often called "tackle football" for contrast), but instead of tackling players to the ground, the defensive team must remove a flag or flag belt from the ball carrier ("deflagging") to end a down (Wickipedia.com, Feb. 17, 2010).
Our intent is to organize one or more teams consisting of 5-7 players per team in the Cubs and Pee Wees age groups and to play in the Dutch Flag Football League as a pilot program to trial interest and feasibility of an ABF Flag Football program for ABF members.
