Training Schedule and philosophy Updated on 19.06.2010
The ABF is a Sports Club run by volunteer members. While the efforts of volunteer coaches have been and will always be highly appreciated, parents and players have been discussing, requesting, or demanding professional coaching.
Guy van Polanen , Joost de Gelder, and Corey Fries will have coaching responsibilities for the 2010-2011 season. ALL ABF KNVB teams will be getting professional coaching on both Wednesday and on Sunday training sessions.
However, volunteer Team Managers and Team Parents will be needed for ALL teams for the Saturday matches. Guy, Joost, and Corey will put together a coaching program, as well as warm-up routines, and cool-down routines, which are highly recommended before and after the matches. The Team Managers should follow these routines on the Saturday matches. Of course, this needs a high degree of cooperation and communication between the professional coaches and Team Managers and Team Parents.
Attendance at the training sessions is very important to allow the players to improve their skills and to practice as a team. Aptitude (soccer skills, fitness, etc.) as well as attitude (behavior during training and matches, team spirit, respect, etc.) are the other two pillars and décisive properties for making a good team.
Attendance, aptitude, and attitude will play a part in the team selection process for the Saturday games. There will be an original draft for ALL squads. Again attendance, aptitude, and attitude will play a part in re-organizing and re-assessing the squads at regular intervals (October break, winter break). Players will sometimes be asked to play in higher teams (eg a D player can be invited to play in ABF C etc.).
Wednesday training will take place at the ABF until mid October. Once the light begins to fade, we will move to another location with flood lights (suitable venue in Wassenaar) or at the Gym halls and rooms of ASH (in 2010-2011 season it will be from 27.Oct.2010 till 09.March.2011).

How can the parents help?
Please select the volunteer team option when registering.
Several of you have already volunteered as Coaches / Team Managers / Team Parents for the various teams. I would appreciate, if you can reconfirm your willingness to help. Anyone else who is willing and able, please let me know. Once we have all the names and we have selected the teams, we will appoint Assistant Coaches / Team Managers / Team Parents for all the teams.
Given that many of us are traveling or have other commitments, the "Assistant Coaches / Team Managers / Team Parents' duties will inevitably be shared throughout the season, so the more volunteers we have the better.
Team Managers / Coaches / Assistant Coaches
This season we wish to emphasise that during the games, if the professional coach is not present, only the Team Manager should "coach" during The Game.
Conflicting instructions from the sideline from parents confuses the children and can be counter-productive.
All parents are asked to be positive by praising your team only.
Team Parent (s)
Each team will need a team parent (s). The team parents' job is to take care of the team, so that the Coach (and the Team Manager) Can concentrate on organizing the team on the field.
This involves:
1. Communicate with the team during the week and let everyone know the date / time and location of The Game on Saturday.
2. Where and when to meet for away games, etc.
3. For home games:
Meet and greet the visiting team - show them to the locker rooms and tell them which field they are playing on.
For the D and B teams, complete the form KNVB match.
Make sure half-time drinks are available for the home and visiting teams (water / juice / oranges will be provided by the club, but need to taken from the kitchen and placed on the fields or to the locker rooms during the half time break) .
KNVB Match Day Coordinator and Assistants
We need one person to take overall responsibility for organizing events at the ABF throughout the season on home match days, as well as 3 or 4 people to assist.
This involves:
· Open the clubhouse 30 minutes before the first game is due to kick off.
· Allocate fields for each team (for everyone's information the proposed field layout for the 2008/2009 season is attached)
· Allocate the locker rooms for visiting teams, we now have 4 separate locker rooms with showers.
· Coordinate the fields / games on those weekends, when ASH will also be using the ABF fields.
· Make sure the kitchen will be open 30 minutes before the first game and 30 minutes after the last.
· Make sure half-time drinks are available.
· Make sure goals and corner flags are in place on each field before kick-off.
Please volunteer to help with these activities.
Referees / Assistant Referees
For each team we need a couple of people who can referee home games. Obviously, you need some understanding of the rules of The Game - if you do then please volunteer. We need the coaches on the sideline coaching - not referee. Alternatively, please let me know if you know of any older children, sibling or friends who could help here.
For the B and D games we also require an assistant referee (aka line person) to run the ''line''. If we do not have a volunteer on game day, the coach will co-opt some to do this! So, it may be a good idea if you do not already know the basics, do a bit of homework and learn the offside rule (it's not that complicated!). Try this link for some basics
KNVB Players - The kids ....
Parents - please ask your child (ren) to read this section, as, in addition to the contribution the coaches and parents to make the KNVB program, the children themselves have some responsibilities:
· Enjoy your soccer - have fun, but ....
· Behave appropriately - both during the games and during training - Our players are representing the ABF and we (the club, the coaches and your parents) expect you to behave well, to listen to your coaches, respect your teammates and to behave in a sporting manner during the games.
· Respect The Game Officials.
· Play in the position you are asked to play - no complaints from either the player or the parents, please.
· Arrive on time, both for training and games (30 minutes before kick-off) - obviously, for the younger children you'll need some help from your parents here - but you can make sure you have your kit (uniform), boots shin guards and clean and ready before you leave the house. Make it your responsibility to have these ready the night before training / The Game.
· At the end of training / The Game, help collect the equipment and return it to the club house.
Respect the property of the Club.
· At the end of training sessions and thank the coaches of the games.
· Collect your trash - empty bottles etc should be removed from the field and placed in the trash bins.
Respect the environment.
· Play fairly and try your best at all times, during Trainings and during the Games, whether you are winning or losing.
Respect your opponents.
We will be appointing a team captain for each team.
All Parents
· Prompt replies to any e-mail you receive from me, the coaches, or team is essential and Parents would be appreciated.
· Please, make sure we are using an e-mail address that you check regularly. Please, no e-mails/text messages sent on Friday night advising that your child is unavailable to play the next day - it's unfair on the coach and the rest of the team.
· Please, inform the Team Parent or Team Manager in advance, if you're unavailable to play on Saturday - usually by 17:00 of the Monday before the Saturday Game.
· Please help the coaches - moving equipment, goals, corner flags at the end of the games - the fields do not leave without thanking the coaches - this help us know that all the players are leaving safely with their parent (s).
· You can check the KNVB website yourself and find the ABF game schedules. Go to
Select "Clubs and Competitions" and then "Search Club, ABF enter and you will see The Game schedule for your team. You can also see the league standing at the site.
· Suggestions - if you have a suggestion as to how we might improve the program, please let me know. Every season we receive numerous valuable suggestions as to how we can improve the ABF, but the most valuable ones are those that are Accompanied by a volunteer willing to make it happen!
· Complaints - if you're unhappy with some aspect of the team program, please talk to the coach first, and then the team manager, before you contact us.

Late Registrations
********************************************************************************
Since we are a club with expat members, we know that people arrive in Holland in the middle of the school season and the KNVB soccer season.
Late registration (i.e after closure of registration) IS POSSIBLE, it should however go through the VP of Soccer. The player, after paying his dues, can join the training with the appropriate Team. When the Team Trainer thinks the newcomer is fit, he will inform the Team manager and the player will be placed in a Team for GAMES.
