Train the Trainer

If you are planning on (or thinking about) coaching recreational soccer at ABF, you’re invited to attend a train-the-trainer session Saturday, September 4 at 17:00 at ABF. At the session, you’ll be guided through the keys to being successful at the recreational level by ABF’s professional trainer, Joost de Gelder, who has worked extensively with Socatots and the Brazilian Soccer School in the Netherlands. You’ll get an overview of the program along with info and walk-throughs of how to run the training sessions with kids of particular ages. You’ll also get some materials to help plan your team’s specific sessions. This is a great way to help kids find or keep their love for the sport and a wonderful way to give back to the community.

In our ex-pat environment, we always need someone to step in and lend a hand. Please help us be prepared! Send an e-mail toinfo@abfsport.nl to let us know if you’d like to attend.

What’s the difference between playing for the KNVB team and the recreational program?

The KNVB league is a 9 month season. It runs from September to May of each year with a winter holiday break. The ABF KNVB teams meet 3 times per week: two trainings (Sunday and Wednesday) and one game (Saturday). Games are at home on the ABF fields and away at other fields usually within a 20 minute drive. KNVB league play begins at the F division (girls and boys with birthdays in 2002 or 2003 and older). Athletes playing on KNVB teams are expected to be on-time for practice and games, as well as attend at least 80% of training sessions and games.

The recreational soccer program is an intramural program that takes place on Saturdays and Sundays at ABF in the spring and fall, and an indoor program in the winter. It starts at Tykes (4 year-olds) and runs through E division. Tykes and Pee Wees (5-6 year-olds) are Saturdays only while the E’s and F’s play both days of the weekend. Girls and boys play together on mixed teams through the F division. Children falling into the D divisions and older are encouraged to sign up for KNVB soccer due to the numbers of athletes participating. ABF also runs an intra-mural all-girls division in the recreational league on Saturdays and Sundays in the fall and spring for girls from approximately 8-12.

If you need more information for the KNVB program, click the “KNVB” button on the right side of the page. The “soccer” button will direct you to the recreational program specifics.
